Wer glaubt, dass es bei einer Chorprobe ums Musizieren geht, um die richtigen Harmonien, Artikulation, Dynamik, der hat Recht, aber halt nur halb. Es geht auch und vor allem um die Pausen. Das unterscheidet Sänger nicht groß von Bolzplatzhelden und Golfern am 19. Loch.
Beim Moscow International Choir sind die Pausen erst recht wichtig, weil sich da die russischen Sänger Zeit nehmen, uns anderen noch mal zu erklären, was der Dirigent eben gewollt hat, wie ein Wort auf drei U-Laute enden kann oder was Бемоль (beMOLL) bedeutet. (Natürlich nicht b-Moll, das wäre ja einfach.)
Sprachlich treffen wir uns dazu meist im Englischen, auch wenn die wenigsten von uns Muttersprachler sind. Und dann kommt, was ich in all seiner Kreativität und Absurdität liebe: Der Versuch, aus Vokabeln und Anekdoten, aus gemeinsamen Bezügen (also bei Dirty Dancing… also in der Bibel…), aus Pantomime und Ausdruckstanz, aus “Sag das Wort mal in Deiner Sprache” und “Kennst Du das Wort noch in einer anderen Sprache?” ein gemeinsames Verständnis zu erreichen. Der folgende Dialog ist echt:
Katja: “Hey, Katrin, I’m trying to explain to Cathérine what this song is about. Are storks and cranes the same birds?”
Katrin: “Don’t think so, no – storks bring babies. Putin flew with cranes.”
Cathérine: “But what are they in French, do you know?”
Katrin: “No idea.”
Cathérine: “Can you say the German words?”
Katrin: “Storch und Kranich.”
Cathérine: “Never heard those before.”
Katja: “There is also a third kind, they are grey and walk on the shore to find food.”
Katrin: “Yes, aren’t they herons? They’re called ‘Reiher’ in German.”
Cathérine: “Ah, heron, that’s actually the same in French, héron. Is the song about them?”
Katja: “No, the bird on the shore is ‘tsapplya’ in Russian, but this song is about a flock of zhuravli. May be cranes, may be storks. Can you look it up?.”
Katrin: “Sure… it says ‘grue’, does that make any sense?”
Cathérine: “Ah, grue – yes of course. And what about them?
Katja: “They fly past and remind the singer of friends who have died in the War.”
Kein Problem, wenn der Lösungsweg komplexer ist als die Ausgangsfrage. Darum sind wir ja hier (und wegen der Musik).
